10,000 Hours of Good: Celebrating the Impact of 2024 RD4G

REV Day for Good (RD4G) has always been more than just a day of service. On October 14, team members in nine cities across North and South Carolina came together for the organization’s annual day of service. Over 240 employees shared a common goal: to give back to their communities.

This year’s initiative saw the credit union’s employees collaborating with 24 different nonprofits. The service projects ranged from park and beach cleanups to assisting with various tasks at animal shelters and therapeutic centers. Some team members focused on landscaping, repairs, and meal preparation at respite homes.

In the afternoon, the South Carolina team gathered at the North Charleston Athletic Center for a group service project, preparing snack pack kits, blessing box kits, hygiene kits, senior care kits, and feminine hygiene kits. In less than three hours, over a thousand kits were packed to benefit Lowcountry Food Bank, East Cooper Community Outreach, Helping Hands of Goose Creek, and the Lowcountry Blessing Box project.

During the event, Mayor Reginald L. “Reggie” Burgess of North Charleston made an appearance to address the crowd, stating, “You are putting in the work, and I thank you on behalf of the city of North Charleston.” Mayor Burgess then announced a proclamation recognizing the impactful volunteer initiative, designating October 14, 2024, as REV Day for Good in North Charleston.

Though RD4G started just four years ago, the organization has long been dedicated to fostering a culture of corporate volunteerism and community outreach.

The company consistently supports community initiatives and encourages employees to volunteer their time and talents to make a difference, offering paid time off for both personal and company-organized activities during work hours. Just one year after its inception, REV Day for Good received the Dora Maxwell Award for Social Responsibility and Community Service from the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation.

Since 2021, REV team members have collectively contributed over 10,000 volunteer hours, with RD4G accounting for 4,200 hours of community service efforts.

“I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication our team has shown in reaching over 10,000 hours of volunteer service”, said Kelly Nix, Public Relations Coordinator at REV. “This has truly been an act of love, as we’ve focused on matching individuals with their ‘volunteer crush’. It’s moving to see their passion and commitment shine through in every effort, especially as they connect with causes that truly inspire them. When you invest your heart into your work, the impact is undeniable.”

Among the standout volunteers is Jennifer Koon, a breast cancer survivor, who has made a tremendous impact through her dedication to helping others.

“I volunteer to make a difference. A small gesture of kindness can make a difference for someone going through a difficult time. You never know what someone is going through,” Koon said. “Bringing joy to others makes my heart happy, and the smile on someone’s face is priceless. Life is too short not to show kindness.”

Jennifer leads with a servant’s heart, generously contributing her knowledge and skills to make a meaningful difference. She has selflessly dedicated hundreds of hours of her own time to the greater good, embodying a true spirit of service and commitment to the community.

REV’s commitment to social responsibility goes beyond their annual day of service. Apart from providing paid volunteer time off, the organization kicked off its inaugural Employee Giving Campaign earlier this year. Employees now have the opportunity to voluntarily donate to the #UpTheGoodFoundation, whose mission is to connect community needs with resources that create positive social and economic impacts.
