"I have watched the credit union grow from something small serving the base into a community credit union and now into REV across multiple states. It has been something to see. Through it all, one thing has stayed the same. REV does not play fast and loose with people’s money. This is a community-minded credit union that cares about people. It is not a big faceless bank. That is why I have stayed all these years."
I became a member back in the late 70s when I joined the Air Force and got stationed in Charleston in 1977. Back then you got those green paper checks, and I had to put my check somewhere. Charleston Air Base Credit Union was close to the barracks, so that is where I went and opened my account. I was about 24 or 25 at the time. A little later, before my wife and I got married, she got an apartment and we needed some furniture.
We came to REV and financed a four‑ or five‑piece living room set.
It was the whole living room, and the sofa alone was a big one. The whole thing cost about $1,200 back then, which was a lot for us, so we financed it through the credit union. As the years went by, we financed two houses through REV. The home we are in now, which we moved into about six years ago, started out with a loan from REV too.
It feels like every major step in our life, REV was part of it in one way or another.
I remember when REV put a branch down the street and how the first ATM showed up there. I used to stop by and get 50 bucks for the weekend. On Sundays you would see these guys lined up at the ATM getting money for a big weekend coming up. Little things like that were part of everyday life back then.
About 22 years ago, I bought a classic 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 and used a secured loan through REV. When I drive that car, I feel like I am eighteen again.
It also reminds me that I have been with REV my entire adult life, and I plan on staying with these guys. It is loyalty, but it is also because I feel safe here.
