Toys for Tots- Spreading Holiday Cheer to Local Children in Need
During the holiday season, our Walterboro branch served as one of the only drop-off locations in the Colleton County area for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Over the past few years, community involvement with this initiative has grown among our local members. This can be attributed to Branch Manager, Timmara McMurtry’s dedication to the community she serves. “In the past, toy drives weren’t as successful because our members knew their donations didn’t stay in our area,” McMurtry said. “Working with local Toys for Tots organizers, we were able to change the distribution process and ensure local donations benefited the children of Colleton County. Once the community learned of the change, toys starting pouring in and every year it gets bigger and bigger. Seeing the community come together for a wonderful cause is my favorite aspect of Toys for Tots.” Our local collection efforts were enhanced in 2019 with a generous donation of toys collected by the South Carolina Bass Federation at their state-level meeting.
